The \i Harsacarita \i0 calls him' " a lion to the \expndtw6 Huna deer, a burning fever to the king of the Indus \expndtw9 land, a troubler of the sleep of Gujarat (Gurjaras?), \expndtw5 a bilious plague to that scent-elephant the lord of \expndtw-3 Gandhara, a looter to the lawlessness of the Latas, an axe \expndtw1 to the creeper of Malwa's glory."\super 1\nosupersub But we must not at \expndtw-3 once jump to the conclusion that all these states named in \expndtw-4 the above passage were actually annexed by Prabhakara\-\expndtw0 vardhana. In our opinion, it is merely a poetical des\-\expndtw1 cription of Prabhakara's greatness and might as com\-\expndtw3 pared with the other contemporary rulers. At the time \expndtw-2 of Yuan Chwang's visit the kingdom of ThanesVar was not more than 7,000 \i li \i0 or 1,200 miles in circuit. Its \expndtw0 north-western frontiers appear to have been limited by \expndtw1 the Huna territories in the Punjab, and in the north it \expndtw-1 probably extended up to the hills. In the east it was \expndtw3 conterminous with the Maukhad state of Kanauj, and \expndtw2 on the west and south it just covered portions of the \expndtw5 Punjab and the Rajputana desert. Harsa, not only \expndtw0 inherited these paternal dominions, but also got the \expndtw-1 Maukhari throne of Kanauj owing to a combination of \expndtw-2 tragic circumstances, which we now proceed to narrate.}\par \pard \plain \cbpat8\ql\li36\fi0\ri0\sb202\sa0 \f2\fs20{\b0\i\cf1\charscalex100\expndtw3\f2\cchs0\lang1033\fs23 Early position}\par \pard \plain \cbpat8\ql\li497\fi0\ri0\sb140\sa0 \f2\fs20{\b0\i0\cf1\charscalex100\expndtw-1\f2\cchs0\lang1033\fs25 When the death of Prabhakaravardhana took place}\par \pard \plain \li0\ri0\sb0\sa0\pvpara\phcol\posnegx2423\posnegy317\absw0\absh252\dfrmtxtx40\dfrmtxty58 {\pict\wmetafile8\picw5511\pich444\picwgoal3124\pichgoal252
